Goalkeeper Spin Recovery technique
The goalkeeper spin recovery technique has been rejected by many coaches & youth clubs in the US. Perhaps due to the heavy European influence in the US soccer.
This technique is finally getting lots of attention in Europe & the US because of the large amount of Latin American Players who play professionally all over Europe.
As result, many European football programs are now trying to use the spin recovery technique which is slowly influencing soccer programs in the US.
Just a bit of background on the spin recovery for goalkeepers
The Spin Recovery has been used by South Americans Goalkeepers for more than 70+ years. This is NOT A NEW CONCEPT.
We used this technique since we were kids. There was very little INSTRUCTIONS on this movement because the spin recovery technique is a very NATURAL HUMAN MOVEMENT. All of us has been doing since BIRTH.
Just observe a toddler recovering when he is on his back, he will simulate a spin recovery to stand up. Baby will roll off his back into a standing position very easily. Therefore, there is no MAGIC about this technique, it is simply a NATURAL move for a goalkeeper.
Why use the spin recovery technique?
This technique allows the goalkeeper to increase his SPEED in case you have two or three shots in a row that changes directions.
Short goalkeepers will benefit from the spin recovery technique. They can move swiftly across the goal. TALL goalkeepers simply LOVE this technique because it requires very little effort to get up, specially if you are a keeper with long arms & legs.
Since this goalkeeper spin recovery technique is NOT taught by European Programs then naturally the US soccer programs will avoid this technique as well.
Some goalkeeper coaches even get upset if any goalkeeper uses this move during their trainings.
See the video for tips that will enhance your recovery
The video on this blog shows you a step-by-step spin recovery technique. This technique will take you sometime to learn.
This spin recovery is all about the RHYTHM, MOMENTUM & EXPLOSIVENESS off the ground. You MUST work with a coach who’ve used this during his/her ENTIRE career and not a coach who learned this of a YOUTUBE video. It takes time to learn it.
I have personally discovered videos and coaches trying to explain the spin moves and it is clear they are new to this concepts. They over analyze & over complicate something that is very natural.
In conclusion,
There is NO question that if a goalkeeper wants to survive the modern game, they will have to learn The Spin Recovery Technique.
Field players are moving fast, even balls are designed to beat a goalkeeper. Therefore, Youth programs and coaches who reject or criticize the recovery technique are far from understanding the modern game and modern goalkeeper.
ZPro Futbol will continue to teach ANY student involved in our programs this technique and will do it for years to come. Not because of our South American background but the Goalkeeper Spin Recovery is simply a powerful tool today and has been used for over 70 years, so we know it works!.

Understanding Athlete Burnout
Athlete burnout is defined by Sport Psychologists as: physical/emotional exhaustion, sport devaluation, reduced athletic performance and accomplishment”. Burnout can occur at a VERY YOUNG AGE. Goalkeeper coaching styles
There is a BIG difference between TRAINING a goalkeeper and DEVELOPING a goalkeeper. I’m very sure that you have encountered many coaches, who, before they even say their names, they talk about their winning records, championships, their “national rankings” and their tons of certifications they’ve gained over the years. It seems as if their egos and history of winning records
