Do you have an amatuer mind set?

A large number of amateur athletes have a strong desire to succeed. However, they lack the mindset to accomplish their goal.

In other words, victory starts in your head. This blog will help you understand how an amateur athlete thinks vs an Elite athlete.

1.  Amateur mentality:

Once this individual reaches a certain point in his career, he is satisfied. Basically he accomplished his goal and that is all he/she wanted to do.

Elite mentality:

They reached a certain spot in their careers. However, they want more. Just getting by is not enough. Even at the highest level this athlete wants to continue to improve every day and become the very best. Nothing is guaranteed so they must be in their best shape of their life.

2. Amateur Mentality

Big goals & big dreams but they are willing to do just enough to get by.  These athletes claim they work & train hard, As long as, training is comfortable and their work feels good. They can only do things and perform well under comfortable conditions.

Elite mentality

Athletes at this level understand that the only way to improve is to go OUT OF THEIR COMFORT ZONE. They are constantly looking to train at level that is truly challenging to be able to stay competitive.

Amateur mentality

It is NEVER their fault, they will blame everybody & make excuses constantly. In addition, they blame LIfe, parents, coach, teachers, teammates. I’m too short, to fat, too slow etc. They have a strong sense of entitlement and make many excuses.

Elite:

No excuses, strong sense of responsibility. They simply OWN IT.

These are big differences between two different types of athletes. However, it is important to know that younger athletes will eventually mature and become more confident in their abilities.

Young amateur athletes can learn to have an elite mentality only if they understand that competition is not about winning a game.  It is about having a mentality that never quits even when things are going terribly.

Furthermore, coaches can have a true impact on young athletes by making a challenging training environment.  Parents also are very responsible for the type of mentality kids will have.  The mindset of a young athlete begins at home.

If you do not have the elite mentality, do not panic. You can start now, it is never too late to learn new things. However, it is a learning process. Accept new challenges, concepts & ideas and get out of your comfort zone.
